Breast Reconstruction

If you are considering breast reconstruction surgery, it may be worth asking your doctor about a new technique, called by it’s abbreviation NEOPEC. From “Cancer Matters”: “NEOPEC involves implanting fat cells from a patient’s own body, which then multiply rapidly and can be shaped into a breast to replace one removed during cancer surgery.” The main advantage seems to be having “real” tissue instead of silicon. The article didn’t make any comparisons to TRAM flap surgery or any other option, so I can’t say if this is something to desire, but it’s always good to know what all your options are. It’s still under trial, so it may not be available anyway at this point.
