One of my patients shared this article with me about a study done in San Fransisco where they looked at the DNA of 70 healthy men and 70 men with prostate cancer who were watching and waiting (so still had the cancer in them). They then grouped those men by physical activity levels, and looked to see if there was any difference in their DNA. They found 184 genes had different expressions for the highly active men, including better expression of tumor-suppressing genes.
This is awesome. This shows, on such a basic-science level, how much exercise can do for the disease itself, not just the general health of the person surviving the disease.
