I was invited to tour the Cancer Support Association's facility in Cottesloe. They have this huge old building that was originaly an orphanage--the first floor had ceilings 4-5 meters tall, great old wood work, big porch out front. It was a fantastic place to be in, and they've upkept it well and painted it in really nice greens and blues. It's right across from the Grant St station on the Freo line, on the East/interior side, but back off the street and kind of hard to see from the road, but they have a big sign out front (look for the primary school playground).
To join is $50 for a year long membership, which is well worth the value: you get access to all their in house services (a couple different fantastic counselling groups, yoga classes, access to a HUGE library, and others), as well as massively discounted rates on other services (massage, retreats, and more). I was given the tour and talked with Kathy and Mike, both cancer survivors and now counsellors at the center.
I would highly recommend joining up. The counselling groups are not courses like my program, but just ongoing sessions that people come and go from as they please. I can not stress enough the benefits, for everyone, of seeing a counsellor (note: counselling is not psychotherapy (note within a note: that's not a bash on psychotherapy, it's just some people assume counselling and psychotherapy are the same thing and that they feel psychotherapy a stigma to it)). Please give them a call at 9384 3544.
