Mission Statement

The purpose of this blog is to improve the quality of life of cancer survivors. This blog hopes to accomplish this goal by publicizing new research on quality of life for cancer survivors and identify programs and strategies that may help cancer survivors accomplish their goals.

Full listing of programs in WA

Breast Cancer Care published this list in their latest addition of their Spirit Newsletter. It compiles pretty much all the services in Perth/WA.

Mental Health and Support:

  • Breast Cancer Clinical Psychology Service: 9224 1629
  • The Cancer Council Helpline: 13 11 20

Exercise programs:
  • My program, which is free: call me at 9433 0906. I run Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings
  • Vario (at ECU Joondalup campus) that you have to pay for: 6304 3444 or www.variowellness.org
  • The Pink Crusaders at Curtin Uni--does have a fee, but can usually be mostly covered my medicare. This is run by Paula, who earned her Masters degree working with me last year. 9266 7870 or p.dorosario@curtin.edu.au. Hers runs Tuesday and Thursday, 10-11 and 2-3
  • Cancer Council's Exercise for Life: free and open to all cancer survivors. Their course lasts 12 weeks. They have locations at Beechboro, Inglewood, Joondalup, Mandurah, and Nedlands. 13 11 20
  • YWCA-Encore hydrotherapy program: 9440 3501
  • The Chemo Club at Aspire Fitness in Claremont: call Jodie at 9385 0424
Support Groups run by Cathie through Breast Cancer Care
  • Heathridge: 3rd Monday of each month 12.30pm-2.30pm
  • Melville: 3rd Friday of each month 10am-12pm
  • Waikiki: 2nd Friday of each month noon-2pm
  • Leederville: 2nd Monday of each month noon-2pm
  • Armadale: 1st Tuesday of each month 5.30-7.30pm
Support groups specifically for advanced breast cancer run by Cathie
  • Leederville: 4th Friday of each month 1-3pm
  • The Mount Hospital: bi monthly on a Saturday morning
