Male Sexual Rehabilitation

The chances of having some amount and form of erectile dysfunction after prostate cancer is, for all intents and purposes, 100%. For many men, it is an ongoing problem after any treatment for prostate cancer, not just surgery. Erectile dysfunction is mainly caused by damage to the nerves that stimulate the corpus cavernosum, the spongy tissues that create an erection. Not only is it important to recover sexual function for its own sake, some epidemiological studies have found correlations between ongoing erectile dysfunction and higher risks of cardiovascular disease.

Penile rehabilitation should be undertaken like any other exercise--regularly and with purpose. My colleague, Jo, was recently asked to consult on producing a Male Rehabilitation Starter Kit, produced by Fig Leaf Products, a small company out of Perth. The kit includes a pump and accessories. Click on the link to be taken to their website (note: it may or may not pop up with an initial page that says "click here to acknowledge that you're 18," but I promise it's not a sketchy website. I've met the lady who runs it. She's a legitimate sex therapist).
